Zene & Fesztivál

Interview: Da Buzz

"Doing that we had to keep the melody in the centre and make it strong. Otherwise it is easy to end up creating cool beats and sounds first in the studio and the melody gets lost. Music today is often made that way, it is cool but you will forget the song after a while and we wanted something else." Da Buzz

This year Da Buzz published a new album called My life with 10 new tracks and 2 remixes, same Eurodisco as always, now the main song's video is running, but which is your favourite song from this album and why?
We think My Life is one of our favorites since it has that uplifting vibe and the same energy as some of our old hits like Alive etc. We love that song and think it fits our live show the best. Even if people hasn't heard it before they start to dance and sing a long to it! Also Losing My Mind is one of our favorites.

What did you strive for now to keep the style as much as possible, or did you do something a little differently?
We decided to write the songs on just guitar and then produce it. The same way as we did back in the days. Doing that we had to keep the melody in the centre and make it strong. Otherwise it is easy to end up creating cool beats and sounds first in the studio and the melody gets lost. Music today is often made that way, it is cool but you will forget the song after a while and we wanted something else.

What trends do you feel in music now?
When it comes to dance music it is all about cool beats, electronic sounds and cool vocals. It seems like there is a lack of ideas for really strong melodies so making covers of old hits has become a popular way to create singles.

Is there someone or something that usually inspires you?
We try to listen to all kinds of music that has an emotional touch but we listen to electronic music of today to keep up with the lastest. New bright producers are popping up and some music really sound great. We are listening to "Kylie Minogue" at the moment.

You often make light or deep official videos. I mean light like summer and fun, travelling, walking, and others are deep with strong emotions and conflicts. How do you come up with the concept for the visuals of the clips?
We try to follow the message that the song has. Our music is warm and uplifting but at the same time melancholic and a bit sad. Life is about struggle and and about missing someone etc. But at the same time we want to bring up dreams and hope in our music.

Was there a funny or memorable moment during some of the video sets?
Dangerous was recorded In Cuba. We were driving cars all over the country and it was a great experience. When Annika had her video set. Per rented a horse riding out in the wilderness, that was an adventure.

How much do these stories draw from your lives, or are you and the models just playing roles?
Everything we write comes from our personality and our dreams, love, expectations and in fact the biggest hits was written when we were in love but traveling and was a bit homesick. To write good music you need to feel something. Pain and love are close to each other.. So there is a lot of personal feelings within our music.

Are your personalities similar to some of the characters in the music videos?
Perhaps a little but we are not criminals like in (Dangerous) or driving sport cars like crazy in (Let Me Love You).

DaBuzz int202310 004

Do you participate in inventing the story of the clips?
It is a collaboration with the video director. They usually have an idea of what they can do that works and then we go together from there.

Is it important to you that the story of your songs and clips have a message, or the main goal is entertainment?
It is entertainment but we always have a message that feels true to us in the music. We can not create something that feel wrong for us, we have to stand for it.

Is it difficult to manage your life and now the new tour, the trips? I saw on FB that you have many dates in the end of the year.
No we think it is easier now that before. We really enjoy traveling now and see a new audience coming to our shows.. We still love what we do.

Do you prefer clubs or festivals?
Both are great. Festivals means a massive audience and other artists to hang with and often an early show. But on the other hand a club is tight and we come close the the crowd.

How many songs do you usually prepare for a performance?
Between 7-12 it depends on the venue.

DaBuzz int202310 007

On what basis do you choose your stage clothes, does someone help you, or do you dress yourself, do you pay attention to harmony?
We always pick our own outfit. Usually go to second hand stores in Stockholm.

Do you have a favorite piece of clothing, color or style in addition to the defining clothing habits?
Everything that fits good. Per like jeans and leather jackets and Annika boots, colorful shirts and trousers. We use different clothes in the summer, perhaps more bright. And in the winter more dark.

DaBuzz int202310 005

What is your favorite audience? How do they behave?
Everyone that is happy and like to sing along. Most of the audience we have is very nice and happy and sings wonderful. They also appear in all countries so no place is better than the other.

How did you two come together?
We come from the same city of Karlstad and worked together in the studio and also performed live in the local club before we decided to start Da Buzz.

Where did the name Da Buzz come from?
A DJ mag in the UK and the word BUZZ and also DA in another page.

What songs are you listening to these days?
Kylie, David Guetta , Tiesto, Elton John.. Everything that's good.
